Featured Author at the NSPDK Eastern Region Conference Literacy Luncheon

Wilheimina Long, author of "The Story of Ray the Buffalo" was the featured author at the 2013 NSPDK, Inc. Eastern Region Conference Literacy Luncheon that was held on Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel.

The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. is a professional organization of women in the field of education.

The Luncheon was exciting as in addition to being the featured author, Soror Marian Cary while wearing her RAY t-shirt, read "The Story of Ray the Buffalo" to the students from Lakeview Elementary School in Portsmouth, VA, as the Sorors and other luncheon guests also enjoyed the reading. Upon completion of the reading, everyone shared that they enjoyed the book, and thought that the illustrations by Ron Miller were just beautiful. They too, were motivated to get up and get moving, and soon that would happen for all present in the room.

After the reading, the students of Lakeview Elementary School performed and presented the premier of the "RAY Dance Song" -- students ages 10 sang and danced to the lyrics written by Lucretia Mason and Wilheimina Long.  After the student's presentation of the song, they invited the Sorors of NSPDK, Inc. to stand up and join then in song and dance.  Oh!! What a lot of fun!!!!

At the end of the luncheon Wilheimina presented Gift Bags to Lakeview Elementary School students. Each received their autographed book of "The Story of Ray the Buffalo", a RAY Activity Book, and a RAY or EMILY button.

The students stated that they enjoyed being able to meet an author.  Wilheimina was very thrilled to have meet each student as well, and was in awe of the wonderful job they did on bring the RAY Dance Song to life.  Thanks Lakeview Elementary School!!!
